3 Red Leaf
Terms used largely with reference to Oomras cotton in India, though for other growths as well. If cotton or kapas has been wetted by rain, or otherwise, the specks of leaf attached to the fibre turn black. Hence "black leaf" is an indication of weather-damaged cotton. In undamaged cotton the leaf is red or brown - hence red leaf. Until recently black leaf Oomras cotton was untenderable, it is now tenderable at an " off" allowance, i.e., at a discount. -
